Reporting Violations & Injured Wildlife
How to report a suspected violation or injured/distressed wildlife through official channels — not a substitute for those channels' own current contact information.
Virginia DWR operates a wildlife-crime reporting line for suspected poaching or regulatory violations — check DWR's own current site for the up-to-date phone number and online reporting form rather than relying on an old or secondhand number.
For injured or distressed wildlife outside a legal, active hunting context, contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitator or DWR directly — this guide does not provide rehabilitation advice and defers entirely to those official channels.
Reporting genuine violations (illegal baiting, shooting-hour violations, taking protected species, exceeding limits) protects the same public resource every legal, ethical hunter also relies on — treated here as a normal part of responsible participation, not an adversarial act.
