Hampton Roads Waterfowl Guide
An educational guide to waterfowl hunting in and around Hampton Roads, Virginia — ducks, geese, and a swan; the region's marshes, rivers, and bays; public hunting areas; current licensing and regulations; safety; and gear. This guide is informational and does not replace hunter education, boating education, official regulations, or your own judgment in the field.
Always verify current rules before hunting. Seasons, bag limits, permits, and access rules change and are set by the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources and the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service — this guide cites its sources and their check dates throughout, but it is never a substitute for confirming the current official regulation directly. See Licensing & Regulations →
This is an initial release: 42 species, 9 researched hunting areas (5 open to some form of public hunting, several deliberately included as clearly explained closed examples), 7 individually-researched local businesses and organizations, 6 reviewed learning-path lessons, 6 field-to-table recipes, and a real, sourced regulatory, safety, and gear foundation. It is not yet a complete statewide or even complete Hampton Roads-wide directory — see the guide's own known-gaps note on each section for what's still unresearched.
Here to fish, not hunt?
Charted Waters started as, and still primarily is, a Hampton Roads fishing guide — locations, species, bait & tackle, charters, and a beginner learning path, all separate from this waterfowl guide's own content and rules.
